Friday Night

Stretched out and staring up from your front lawn at the stars on a dark blue pallet of nothing

I make wishes that mean nothing and no one hears

Your heart is splintered in pieces, barely enough for kindling.

Look out for the flood plain of salt stained tears.

They say that life’s for the living,

Should put some distance in the way

It’s a poor man’s song that has no tune

You can’t get gone when you’re looking for your pay

Someday will happen, least that’s what I heard.

Just keep your head down and don’t say a word.

Someday will happen between the moon and the sun

But you’re not the one; no you’re not the one

And I’m sitting in my living room

Wondering how it all fell apart,

Reflections on my TV screen

Sound of water in my ears and a weight on my heart.

Writing out just one more cheque

I never saw this coming, from a thousand days ago

The music’s just a memory now, I

Always thought there was another way to go

Someday will happen, least that’s what I heard.

Just keep you head down and don’t say a word.

Someday will happen between the moon and the sun

Can I be the one?

Coffee’s getting cold and I’m just about to go

When the doorbell rings and you walk in

You tell me that you’re tired too

Now I know that I can’t win

Someday will happen, I think that it’s today

Had your head down for so long

There must be another way
